We completed a word search today to review what we have learned so far in this Chemistry Unit. If you were absent, use the notes from the notebook tab to complete the missing words and then find those words in the word search.
This will be used in place of the QUIZ for this section. Each question is worth 2 points for a total of 50 points. There are a couple of errors on the worksheet!! #1 and #14 have the same answer. Decayed is used to answer a question BUT..is NOT in the word search. Nucleus is NOT used in the questions BUT.. is in the word search. Word Search Review We were in the computer lab today working on a webquest called The Heat is On. The webquest helps us to learn that during a chemical change heat may be given off or taken in. If you were absent, click the link below and follow the instructions on the worksheet. The Heat is On Website The Heat is On Worksheet We were in the lab today making gloop. Gloop is a polymer with slime like characteristics. Polymers are made up of many many repeating molecules all strung together to form really long chains.
If you were absent, you will need to come to my classroom and use my gloop sample to answer the questions for the lab write-up. Gloop Lab We took a Quiz on chemical and physical changes today.
If you were absent, use the following word bank for questions 1 and 2. size or shape change burning reactions rusting phase changes mixtures tarnishing decay digestion color change We used the rest of the time in class to get caught up on work or do early finishers. Quiz 8.1.2 We read the following story as a class today and identified the physical changes (highlighted in yellow) and the chemical changes (highlighted in pink). It was then your turn to create your own story.
Your assignment today: 1. Read the story below, looking at the examples of the highlighted changes. 2. Read the instructions for the assignment. 3. Sign in to Google Classroom, and click on Changes Story. 4. Complete the assignment and turn it in. Today we applied what we learned about both changes and properties to different scenarios. If you were absent, complete the worksheet using your notes for help if you need it.
Chemical/Physical Practice We were in the lab today watching a demonstration on clues about physical and chemical changes. We learned that physical changes do not change the chemical nature of the substance, like ripping a piece of paper or popping a balloon. Chemical changes do cause the substance to become a new or different substance, like rusting and burning.
If you were absent go to the notebook tab and look at the notes there to complete yours. We put the notes from the demonstration in our science notebooks. Demo Notes We watched a video today to refresh what we know about chemical and physical PROPERTIES and also to introduce chemical and physical CHANGES. We have already identified how to look for the substances properties NOW we are looking at how they change and interact. If you were absent fill out the video guide as you watch the video. Properties/Changes Video Guide We were in the lab today looking at different substances, listing physical properties and testing for chemical properties. We had some solids and liquids that started on fire!
If you were absent, come see Mrs. Roundy. We took notes on Chemical and Physical Properties today. A property is a quality or trait belonging to an object. If you were absent watch the you tube video as a introduction and then use the power point to make notes for your notebook. Properties Power Point |
