We were in the lab today watching some demonstrations on the energy changes that occur as a reaction takes place. We talked about EXOthermic reactions (energy EXITS or leaves the reaction) and ENDOthermic reactions (energy ENTERS the reaction). If you were absent, watch the videos below to complete the assignment. Energy Demo Worksheet Today we talked about phase changes and what is happening with temperature and heat energy during the phase change. There are 2 rules to remember: 1. Temperature DOES NOT change during a phase change. 2. Heat Energy DOES change during a phase change.
We also covered the six types of phase changes: Evaporation, Condensation, Deposition, Sublimation, Freezing and Melting. If you were absent, study the diagrams below then complete the assignment called Phase Changes Practice on Google Classroom. We took a quiz on Natural Resources and Synthetic Materials today.
We also did a notebook check. You should have 10 sets of notes for your notebook to be complete, for a total of 50 points. I also did a bellwork notebook check, for a total of 50 points. Quiz 8.1.4 We started today off by watching a short video about plastics, then took notes observing traits of each classification of plastic. We looked through a series of plastic examples representing each PET number and glued our findings into our notebooks. Below is a chart showing the various plastic numbers and the materials they are used for. If you were absent, watch the video, then use the information below to complete your notes. Observing Plastic Notes We were in the classroom today observing different types of ropes. Some ropes were made from natural resources and some ropes were made synthetically. If you were absent, use the picture and the descriptions below to complete the activity.
Observing Ropes Worksheet We were in the lab today testing different types of fabrics. We looked at the reaction of bleach, water absorbency and a burn test. We tested some fabric made from natural resources and some made from synthetic materials. If you were absent use the lab results and information below to complete your lab. Fabrics Lab Worksheet Lab Results Fabric Information Cards We watched some videos in class that showed how products are made using synthetic materials. If you were absent, watch the following videos looking for the original material needed to produce the product.
Today we read articles about how we use natural resources to create synthetic materials for our everyday lives. Some examples that we looked at are kevlar, rubber, diapers, etc.
If you were absent: Use the articles below to complete the assignment. Synthetic Materials Assignment Synthetic Materials Reading: Synthetic Materials - Rayon Synthetic Materials - Rubber Log into Google Classroom and complete the assignment labeled
"Nonrenewable vs Renewable Resources" . Use the following links to answer the questions: Link #1 : Natural Resources Link #2: Nonrenewable Resources Link #3: Renewable Resources Link #4: U.S. Energy Statistics We took notes today on the types of resources available to us on our planet. We also watched a video that summerized natural resources. Resources Notes Power Point |
